Ok I have been meaning to try the Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm for a while after watching nikkietutorials. She swears by this product as a makeup primer, due to the high level of glycerin it keeps your foundation looking perfect all day.  So when my lovely and I were doing our weekly grocery shop last week I came across it on special for $8, I thought it was perfect timing. I told him if it doesn’t work out, he can have it so no harm in giving it a shot …well safe to say this is staying on my makeup table.

I have been using it in my makeup routine for the past week, and firstly I have to say I do not like the initial smell that much, its a “manly” fragrance ( it is a men’s product after all) but I follow with my usual makeup application, and after a while the smell  disappears into the  cosmetic fragrance abyss probably due to the foundation and other product I have on my face. Other users say the same, that the fragrance dissipates quickly. So rest assured you don’t go around smelling like a man or anything.

The product is super liquidy (or wet – for lack of a better word), so I make sure my moisturiser is dry before applying. I find using this product my makeup stays on most of the day. I have a tendency to touch my face a lot and lean on my hands, and I end up rubbing most of my makeup away anyway. I really like how this keeps my look together for most of the day. It wont do anything like blur pores or correct skin tone like other primers can, this is purely good for those of us who who like our makeup to stay put! You could always apply those primers before the Nivea balm and then see how that goes. I have been using my napoleon primer on my drier areas underneath the Nivea, for that extra hydration. I haven’t broken out with this product, and as it’s designed for the face I guess it would be safe for most, but I always recommend patch testing for those with extra sensitive skins.

It would be awesome if Nivea came out with a hypoallergenic non or low fragrant version for us makeup junkies, surely they can see a market? Or even better lavender or rose scented. Hopefully this is in the pipeline as I really like this product. But nonetheless I will definitely keep using it.In short its a great beauty secret and definitely a must have for keeping your foundation on all day!
